History of the Champaign Lions
The Champaign Lions Club was founded on October 26, 1927. For 90 years we have been tirelessly serving those in need in the Champaign community. Our projects have been numerous, including the following: ---collecting thousands of used eye glasses that are reprocessed by Lions International for use by people in third world countries, paying for eye exams and eye glasses for needy persons in Champaign, assisting the hearing impaired to obtain examinations and hearing aids, providing special hearing aids for patrons at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, and providing socks to needy school kids. In the past, we have also contributed nearly $50,000 toward the development of the Eye Research Institute in Chicago.
